The Organization

Sacramento Hmong New Year, Inc. (SHNY, Inc.) is a non-profit organization founded in 2004 by the 18 Hmong Clans to serve the Hmong community in the city of Sacramento. Our vision is to preserve and produce a traditional Hmong New Year in a rapidly changing society. We hope to usher the New Year into a new era. SHNY, Inc.'s goals are to introduce the concept of the Sacramento Hmong New Year to the next generation of Hmongs and to reinforce Hmong values and traditions.

SHNY. Inc hopes to:

Establish a positive relationship between the 19 Hmong clans and have equal representation from each of those 19 clans Preserve the cultural values, heritage and customs of the Hmong community.

Promote higher education, businesses and leadership within the hmong community Create a strong financial asset, in order to give back to the community.

Sacramento Hmong New Year, Inc. wishes to preserve and pass along the rich Hmong culture and strong values to its' newest and youngest generation of Hmong - our future leaders, to continue to hold onto our heritage and to celebrate our own special identity.

Larry SuavLwm Thao President Larry began his career in the early 80's. Larry's main interests are planning and engaging in business as an entrepreneur. Larry is a very hard working individual ande puts his community as a top priority. Larry is a good community leader and a well known elder in the Hmong community.
